Harry Ransom Center - University of Texas, Austin

My internship at the Harry Ransom Center at University of Texas, Austin took place between June and August, 2023. The Harry Ransom Center is an acclaimed humanities research center with collections from film, theatre and performing arts, photography, literature, and art. During my time at HRC I worked on three major projects. This included the rehousing and inventory control of 16mm film in the Ted Spagna Collection, sorting and creating digital access files for the Norman Bel Geddes Collection, and crosswalking audiovisual metadata fields from HRC’s legacy database into their new collection management system, QI.

Through the course of the internship I gained experience in film handling and identification, inventorying, metadata quality control, and digital preservation. By the end of my internship I was able to rehouse 300+ films, created 60+ access files, and collaborated on metadata fields for the upcoming transition alongside employees with years of institutional/archival experience.
