POV / American Documentary
My summer experience working with POV / American Documentary was invaluable. As with any MIAP internship, I anticipated the site to be a repository for a rich audiovisual collection ripe with opportunity for exploring a cornucopia of formats and content. What I found met those expectations and more. During my time, I was able to synthesize multiple disciplines I've learned during the MIAP program to work on the collection with a level of independence that one would expect from a full-time position.
In particular, working with the collection at POV meant not just working on a single aspect, i.e. digitization or cataloging, but working holistically with multiple parties in order to facilitate the handling of the materials from top to bottom. In this vein I gained experience in packing and shipping, working with an internal database, visual QC, and digital preservation.
