La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club Archive
During my time at the La MaMa archive, my primary focus was on inventorying their audio collection, which had not been previously assessed or digitized. Using BAVC's template called AV Compass, hosted on Airtable, I aimed to create a comprehensive inventory with customizable fields and dropdown menus to ensure the use of a controlled vocabulary. The collection mainly consists of 1/4" open-reel audio tapes and cassette tapes, to which I assigned unique identifiers to. Items contaminated with mold have since been isolated in a separate box to prevent them from affecting other items in the collection. As I progressed through the inventory, it evolved and changed organically after adjustments were made to respond to the needs of the archive. My approach shifted from being strictly objective to actively researching the items, combining inventorying with preliminary cataloging. Through this internship, I have learned the importance of effective communication, prioritizing the needs of the archive when creating documents, inventories, and workflows.
