Arts Professor

Paul Steinberg is a graduate of Pratt Institute and The Central School of Art, London. He has designed sets and costumes for theater and opera companies in the US and internationally including The Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, London, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Paris Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Bolshoi Opera, Deutsche Opera Berlin, Bavarian State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Cologne Opera, The Netherlands National Opera, Bregenz Festival, Theater An der Wien, Vienna, Royal Danish Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Lithuanian National Opera, New Israeli Opera, The Liceu, Barcelona, Opera Nomori, Tokyo, New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Theater of St Louis, San Francisco opera, Houston Grand Opera, Playwrights Horizons, American Repertory Theater, New York Theater Workshop, Goodman Theater, D.C.Shakespeare Theater, Center Stage, Hartford Stage, Intiman Theater. Recent productions include CO2 (world premiere), La Scala, Khovanshchina, De Vlaamse Opera, Der Meistersinger, English National Opera , Falstaff, Covent Garden, La Scala, The Met, Amsterdam, Toronto, Un Ballo in Maschiera, The Met, Der Rosenkavalier, Glyndebourne Festival, Love For Three Oranges, Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Perichole, New York City Opera, Billy Budd, Peter Grimes, English National Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and A Man’s A Man,  Classic Stage Company, Pyramus & Thisbe (world premiere), Canadian Opera Company, Semiramide, Bavarian State Opera, Tristan And Isolde in Karlsruhe, Don Giovanni at ENO and Der Rosenkavalier at The Met, Covent Garden and Torino. Upcoming productions include M Butterfly directed by Julie Taymor opening on Broadway in October 2017, The Twilight Zone by Ann Washburn at the Almeida Theater, London in December 2017 and Lohengrin at the Royal Opera House, London June 2018. He is a Fellow of The American Academy in Rome and recipient of a grant from the British Arts Council. He was a designated honored designer at the Prague Quadrenniel 2007.
