Bara Kopeca has been working in the film industry for over 30 years – as an editor, director, producer, and scriptwriter. In the last five years, she has also been a script doctor and dramaturgist for Czech Television and other productions.

She obtained a Master’s degree in Film Editing at FAMU and has been teaching there since 2002. From 2002 to 2005, she was Chair of the Editing Department at FAMU.

Between 1999 – 2022, she worked for various film and TV productions in Canada and the United States. She writes film essays for film and culture magazines and very much loves to explore the possibilities of film language together with her students, since she loves to share her passion for film editing and its powers to create meaning and emotion in all film genres. She appreciates the new modern input and point of view of new generations of young filmmakers.

While working abroad, among other projects, Bara edited and co-wrote a feature documentary, The Second Front, which was awarded a prize by The National Foundation for Jewish Culture in 2001. After returning to Prague, Bara focused on directing and co-producing documentary films. Her film DK won the Koutecký Award (a prestigious documentary film award in the Czech Republic), was nominated for the Czech Lion Award, and was an official selection at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Her documentaries for Czech Television have been chosen to compete at specialized festivals such as Paris Science.
