Tisch Summer High School Week 1 Highlights: Film and Recorded Music

Tisch School of the Arts hosts high school sophomores and juniors from around the country and around the globe every summer in the Tisch Summer High School program.

Students in this year's class represent 36 states and Washington, D.C., 2 U.S. territories, and 16 international countries. This four-week residential program allows the high school students to experience life as art students living in New York City. 

Since their arrival last Sunday, the students have jumped into a full schedule, taking classes throughout the day, going on field trips, and attending performances and other social activities at night. 

In the coming weeks we'll be bringing you highlights from each of the seven artistic tracks, beginning with Film and Recorded Music.  

High School Filmmakers Workshop

The students in the summer filmmakers workshop in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television receive professional, intensive training in all aspects of the filming process, from location scouting to the final edits.

They began the program with a safety training seminar and camera tech workshop, and they have already started their projects by shooting in crews around the NYU campus. The students are also learning how to edit using Adobe Premiere Pro. On Thursday night, the class attended the Broadway play "1984".

The course culminates with a final project. Each team conceptualizes and creates a music video which is presented at the end of the program. Well share their work at the end of the summer but check out projects from our alumni here.

Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music 

Students who participate in the Recorded Music track are entrepreneurs-in-training, studying how music is recorded, produced, and distributed to consumers. The students take classes in audio engineering, music business, and music criticism, giving these future recording artists and music executives a taste of what it's like to work in the music industry.

In addition to their engineering and entrepreneurial courses, this week students met with executives from Spotify and attended a performance of the Broadway musical "Waitress". 

Tomorrow they'll attend a showcase at The Bitter End, featuring students from the spring high school Future Music Moguls program.
