The Summer Intensives

Monday, Feb 13, 2017

Why not make this the summer you are going to take classes and create in your own voice. Perhaps you need a special skill set to take you to that next level in your career or creative passion. Summer registration starts today, Monday, February 13, so we’d like to help you find the best fit for your goals.

Tisch offers summer courses at varying levels of artistic training. The opportunities run from credit and non-credit stand-alone courses, to non-credit certificates, as well as workshops and intensives. The choices could be overwhelming. Our second post in the summer series highlights the Tisch intensives. If you have just a few weeks in your schedule to take courses this summer, these might work for you:

DANCE
Deepen your craft and prepare for your professional dance career with the Summer Dance Residency Festival. Intermediate-to-advanced-level dancers are welcome to attend one or both of the three-week workshops. Dance companies from all over the world will provide week-to-week instruction.

RECORDED MUSIC
Have you always wanted to experience life as a music executive in New York City? The Recorded Music Industry Bootcamp, offered through the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, immerses aspiring producers, songwriters, and performers in the music industry. During the three-week intensive, students will learn what it takes to be successful music entrepreneurs.

DRAMA
Ready to take your actor training to the next level? The Undergraduate Department of Drama is running two Meisner intensives this summer along with a Music Theatre Intensive through the New Studio on Broadway. You will spend six days a week in the studio during these five-week sessions immersed in the core essentials of these disciplines.

Based on "the reality of doing", Meisner Technique: An Introduction will introduce you to the fundamentals of this practice through training in acting, movement, voice & speech, singing, and “play” or clowning. In Advanced Training/Rehearsing with Meisner, you will apply the fundamentals of the Meisner technique to the rehearsal process, with a final presentation at the end of the session.

Through the 2017 Summer Music Theatre summer intensive, you will be immersed in the core essentials of the New Studio on Broadway’s music theatre curriculum which includes: acting (acting technique, Shakespeare, contemporary monologue study, voice and speech, and mask work), singing (vocal technique & performance, vocal book preparation, and sight-singing), and dance (yoga, ballet, jazz, and tap). Award-winning actors, directors, choreographers, and music directors will also teach master classes throughout the session.

ITP Camp
Looking for an untraditional way to develop or learn new skills? Known as the "un-university", ITP Camp is a four-week crash course for working professionals to spend evenings and weekends creating and collaborating with other students as well as attending lectures and workshops. Topics that have been covered in past years include: How Data Became The New Medium for Artists, Wet Leather Forming, Making 3D Holograms With Lasers, Introduction to Bluetooth Low Energy, and Mobile VR, just to name a few.
