How to Apply for a Tisch Minor

Procedures for applying to a Tisch minor varies across the schools at the University. Please select a school for details.

Policies and Procedures by School

Tisch STUDENTS

  • Obtain your department Advisor's approval
  • Visit the Office of the Registrar for more information on applying for a Tisch minor.
  • Go to your My Academics tab in your Student Center on Albert to apply.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure you satisfy the requirements for the minor.
  • As a Tisch student, you may request removal of a Tisch minor from your academic record through the same location on Albert.
  • Effective spring 2015, students who have any combination of Tisch majors and minors will only be permitted to count one course towards both areas.
  • Majors in the Department of Dramatic Writing must consult their Academic Administrator before declaring the Minor in Film Production.
  • Completion memos are sent to the Registrar for processing provided students have completed all their requirements. The memos are sent around mid-semester of the semester students intend to graduate.

Steinhardt Students

  • Steinhardt students may not use major/specialization credits to satisfy "minor" requirements.
  • Review Student Advisement at Steinhardt for details about Cross-School Minors.
  • Obtain your Advisor's approval.
  • Complete the electronic Application for Cross-School Minors (also available on Albert under the Academic Records menu).
  • Once everything is approved, Steinhardt will allocate the minor on your record and it will then become part of your degree requirements.
  • Completion memos are sent to the Registrar for processing provided students have completed all their requirements. The memos are sent around mid-semester of the semester students intend to graduate.

STERN STUDENTS

  • Visit Minors and Electives at Stern for more information about Cross-School Minors.
  • Obtain your Advisor's approval.
  • Complete the electronic Application for Cross-School Minors (also available on Albert under the Academic Records menu).
  • Once everything is approved, Stern will allocate the minor on your record and it will then become part of your degree requirements.
  • Completion memos are sent to the Registrar for processing provided students have completed all their requirements. The memos are sent around mid-semester of the semester students intend to graduate.

COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE STUDENTS

CAS students are permitted to take a maximum of 16 units from other divisions of the University. Please note that the Tisch courses that CAS students take as part of this minor will count toward those 16 units.

  • Review Cross-School Minors on the CAS website.
  • Obtain your Advisor's approval.
  • Complete the electronic Application for Cross-School Minors (also available on Albert under the Academic Records menu).
  • Once everything is approved, CAS will allocate the minor on your record and it will then become part of your degree requirements.
  • Completion memos are sent to the Registrar for processing provided students have completed all their requirements. The memos are sent around mid-semester of the semester students intend to graduate.

GALLATIN STUDENTS

  • Review the information about Cross-School Minors on the Gallatin website.
    Obtain your Advisor's approval.
  • Complete the electronic Application for Cross-School Minors (also available on Albert under the Academic Records menu).
  • Once everything is approved, Gallatin will record the minor on your record and it will then become part of your degree requirements.
  • Completion memos are sent to the Registrar for processing provided students have completed all their requirements. The memos are sent around mid-semester of the semester students intend to graduate.

Tandon School of Engineering Students

  • Visit Minors at Tandon for more information about Cross-School Minors.
  • Obtain your Advisor's approval.
  • Complete the electronic Application for Cross-School Minors (also available on Albert under the Academic Records menu).
  • Once everything is approved, Tandon will allocate the minor on your record and it will then become part of your degree requirements.
  • Completion memos are sent to the Registrar for processing provided students have completed all their requirements. The memos are sent around mid-semester of the semester students intend to graduate.
