Josh Mond

Josh Mond is an award-winning writer, director, and producer. Mond's breakthrough directorial debut, James White, which he also wrote, stars Christopher Abbott, Cynthia Nixon, and Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and took home the Sundance Next Audience Award. The film also took home the Audience Award at AFI Fest, the Revelations Prize at Deauville Film Festival, and Don Quixote Award at the Locarno Film Festival. Mond also received a Gotham Awards nomination for Breakthrough Director, and Independent Spirit Award Nomination for Best First Feature.

Mond has also produced a number of different projects, including feature films, shorts, and music videos. Most notably, the critically acclaimed film, Martha Marcy May Marlene, directed by Sean Durkin, which premiered in the US Dramatic Competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The film went on to screen as part of Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival and was picked up by Fox Searchlight. Mond was named one of Variety’s “Ten Producers to Watch” in 2011.

Josh Mond produced Afterschool, directed by Antonio Campos, for which he was nominated for a 2009 Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Afterschool premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival section Un Certain Regard. The film was nominated for two Gotham Awards and was released theatrically by IFC in October 2009. Josh also produced Campos’ second feature, Simon Killer, which premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, and executive produced Campos' feature Christine, which premiered in competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by The Orchard. Mond produced The Eyes of My Mother, directed by Nicolas Pesce, which premiered in NEXT at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Magnolia Pictures. He also produced Two Gates of Sleep, directed by Alistair Banks Griffin and staring Brady Corbet. The film premiered at 2010 Director’s Fortnight in Cannes.

Mond produced the short “Mary Last Seen,”which premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and had its European premiere at 2010 Director’s Fortnight in Cannes, where it won the SFR Short Film Prize. Other short films include “The Last 15” which premiered in competition at 2007 Cannes Film Festival and Official Selection 2007 New Directors/New Films. Mond also directed the acclaimed music video for Mayday Parade’s “Kids in Love,” which was featured at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival and was named by MTV as one of the top videos of the year. In 2006, Josh won a commendation award at NYU’s First Run Film Festival for Achievement in Music Video.

Mond also produced Nicolas Pesce's second feature Piercing (Sundance ’18) based on the Ryu Murakami novel by the same title. The film stars Christopher Abbott, Mia Wasikowska, Maria Dizzia, and Marin Ireland. Mond is a co-founder of Borderline Films. Borderline films had a first look deal with Fox Searchlight for three years starting in 2011.

Currently Josh Mond is in post production on his new film, It Doesn't Matter, as the writer/director. The film stars Christopher Abbot and Jay Will.
