NYU Student Health Center
726 Broadway
212-443-1000
The NYU Student Health Center (SHC) will assist students with urgent medical concerns. However, the SHC does not have pediatricians on staff and underage students who cannot be treated at SHC will be referred to outside care. Students in need of urgent medical attention, or their program staff, can call the SHC to request to speak with a triage nurse. Upon evaluation, the SHC will either provide urgent care or refer the student to a local urgent care clinic or hospital, so they receive the best care for their immediate needs.
Immediate Mental Health Support
Text or Call 988
NYC 988 is New York City’s emergency service available free of charge to anyone in the city in need of confidential and immediate mental health support. The service is available 24/7, and counselors can provide emergency support and refer a student to local mental health professionals if follow-up care is recommended. Whenever you have questions or need to speak with someone, do not hesitate to contact NYC 988.
Health Insurance for Residential Students
NYU values student health and wants to guard against financial hardships that may result from high healthcare expenses. All students should carry their health insurance cards (physical or digital) at all times during the program in case of an emergency.
International students under a NYU-issued student visa are automatically enrolled in NYU Student Health Insurance (212-443-1020). Premiums for this coverage will be included in the student’s fees listed on their bill.
The Student Health Center (SHC) is out-of-network with most health insurance plans including all Medicaid plans. Triage by SHC nurses does not incur any charge. The NYU Student Health Center is only in-network with NYU’s Wellfleet Insurance, some United Health Care, and some Oxford Health plans. Please call your insurance carrier to confirm your coverage in the New York City area and at the SHC.
Only international residential students are enrolled in NYU student health insurance. All domestic high school students are required to maintain their own domestic health insurance.
Students should be sure their insurance coverage provides both mental health and general health benefits and covers both in-patient (hospital) as well as out-patient services. Even with insurance, students may pay out-of-pocket for some services then submit claim forms for reimbursement and should plan for both on-going and possible emergency costs to be paid out-of-pocket.
All residential students are required to bring a copy of their insurance card with them to the program and to carry it with them at all times in case of an emergency.
Wellness
During the high school program, students will experience exciting opportunities that will enrich their lives and give them a better sense of themselves and the world around them. As with all new experiences, however, there are potential stressors as well. In some cases, students may need the support of medical and mental health professionals. Although spending time at NYU will, in many ways, be a new beginning, it is important that students continue any counseling or medical treatment while here (and continue to take any medication they may already be taking) to make sure they are feeling their best and can fully enjoy their experience.
It is important for you to arrange beforehand to have mental health or related services available here. NYU does not offer long-term psychotherapy or ongoing psychiatric services for students. Instead, students who need regular and frequent care are encouraged to get referrals to private mental health providers in the city. There may be a delay in making an appointment depending on availability, so it is best to start this process as early as possible. Also, students should make sure to have access to the prescription and over-the-counter medications they may need, by either securing enough medication for the entire duration of the program or plan for access to a local mental health professional who can write prescriptions while they are in the residential program.
Moses Center for Accessibility and Inclusive Culture

mosescenter@nyu.edu
The Moses Center for Accessibility and Inclusive Culture partners with the NYU Community worldwide to ensure an accessible university experience for all students with disabilities by removing or minimizing barriers to education access. We engage in an individualized, interactive process with each student to explore the impact of a disability or disabilities on their education experience. Through this process, appropriate and reasonable accommodations are determined and implemented on a case-by-case basis.
Students are strongly encouraged to contact the Moses Center well in advance of the beginning of the program to allow necessary time to review disability requests and implement accommodations. Please contact the Center with any questions you may have about their services.
