Spring Future Artists Program Requirements

Get revved up for college.

Please read the following admissions information before starting your online application. You may be contacted for an audition or additional application materials. You can find important dates on the Tisch Special Programs Admissions Calendar.

How do I apply?

  • Step 1 - Requirements and Eligibility
  • Step 2 - Application Creation Form
  • Step 3 - Online Application
  • Step 4 - Notification
  • Step 5 - Confirmation

  • You must be a current freshman, sophomore, or junior high school student and agree to being online in class on Saturdays from February 6 - May 15, 2021 between 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM EST. There are no exceptions.
  • There is no GPA minimum requirement for this program. SAT and ACT testing grades are NOT reviewed.
  • The programs are open to high school students based in the U.S. with priority given to students in the New York Tri-State area, including one of the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester County, Long Island, New Jersey, parts of Philadelphia, and Connecticut.

This is a collaborative, rigorous, and competitive program so your presence is keenly felt. You should arrive ready to absorb, challenge, and internalize what is being offered. Your prior accomplishments are not as important as being open to the ideas and training that will be presented.

Your admissions decision is based on a faculty review of your entire application, including your personal statement, letter of recommendation, résumé, and transcripts. Those that are selected will be brought in for an online interview.

All communications regarding your application, including your admissions decision, will be communicated to you via the email address that you designate as your primary email address on the application. Please check this email account regularly, as you will be receiving communications that are often time-sensitive and require a response.

  • Fill out the Application Creation Form to create your application account and start your application. On this form, you will be asked to provide some basic information such as name, date of birth, and email, and to select the program that you will be applying for.
  • Helpful tips: Please be sure to use an email address that you check frequently. If you have siblings who are also applying, each of you should use separate email addresses to avoid application issues.
  • Upon submission of the Application Creation Form, you will receive an email with the subject line “Tisch Spring Future Artists Program Next Steps.” If this is your first time applying, this email will contain a temporary PIN and instructions for finalizing your account setup. Please follow these steps carefully. Otherwise, if you have already set up your application account, you will be directed to login with the password that you previously set.

  • To resume your application, log into the Application Management page and proceed through the application. Please pay close attention to the information on the “Instructions” page for guidelines about submitting your application and any additional required documents.
  • After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email with the subject line “Thank you for applying to {{Track Name}}.” If you did not receive this email, you can always log back into the Application Management page to confirm whether or not the status of your application is “Submitted.” If the status is “In Progress,” you must resume and submit your application before the deadline in order to be considered for the program.
  • Within a few days, you will receive a second email with the subject line “Your NYU ID Numbers and Status Page.” This email will have your NYU credentials and instructions for accessing your applicant portal, where you can check the status of your application and any missing documents.
  • When decisions are released, you will be notified via email. In this email, you will be directed to log into your applicant portal with your NYU credentials to view your decision and take action if you have been accepted or waitlisted.

Below is a list of what you will need to prepare to submit:

  • Personal statement
  • Creative résumé
  • One recommendation letter
  • Official high school transcript issued directly from the school
Homeschooled Candidates: Please review the policy for documentation in the Transcripts section below.

Type or copy and paste your statement in the Personal Statement section within the online application. The personal statement prompt consists of Part A and Part B which should be answered separately.

Your complete personal statement should total 500-1500 words. You may not re-submit the same statement from another Tisch Special Programs application.

We recommend first typing your personal statement in your preferred composition program, then you can copy and paste your Personal Statement into the "Personal Statement" section of your application.

The prompt for Part A is the same for all tracks within the Future Artists program. The prompt for Part B is specific to your chosen track (e.g. there is a specific prompt for dance applicants, recorded music applicants, etc.).

If you have selected a second or third choice program, please respond to the Part B prompts for those as well. Please make it clear where the responses for your first, second, and third choices begin.

The prompts are provided in the application.

In the Documents section of the online application, upload your creative résumé. Your creative résumé should highlight creative and artistic work accomplished, activities, and relevant employment. Your résumé should also include:

  • Your full name and contact information
  • Any extra-curricular activities or work in your community
  • Additional information such as awards, hobbies, and interests
  • OPTIONAL: URL links to your online media (e.g. video, music, photography, etc.)

Within the online application, please enter the name and email address of your recommender. The recommendation must be from a high school representative, ideally one who is familiar with your interest in the performing or media arts. You have the option of adding a second recommender, however only one is required.

Register your recommender early! After sending the recommendation form, please be sure to follow up with your recommender to ensure that they have received it. You should allow your recommender 1-2 weeks to complete the recommendation. Recommendations must be received by the application deadline.

Once you submit your recommender's information, they are emailed instructions on how to submit their online recommendation. If a recommender has trouble completing their online recommendation please have them contact our office. You will be emailed confirmation that the recommendation has been received. The subject of the confirmation email is “Tisch Application Reference Submission”.

Request your transcript early. You should allow at least 2-4 weeks for processing and delivery to Tisch Special Programs. Your official transcripts must be received (not postmarked) in our office by the application deadline. If we have not received your official transcripts by the application deadline, your application will not be considered for admission.

Official transcripts must be issued directly from the high school to Tisch Special Programs and should be sent via the following method:

  • Email: This is our preferred delivery method.
    • Emailed transcripts must come from a school representative or an official transcript service on behalf of your school.
    • Our email address is admissions.docs@nyu.edu.
    • If you have any difficulties requesting a transcript from your high school please contact us ahead of time at tisch.special.admissions@nyu.edu.

Homeschooled Applicants

In place of a formal transcript from a high school, please have your parent/guardian in charge of your homeschooling email a document to admissions.docs@nyu.edu detailing the following:

  • Completed and in-progress coursework
  • Summary of each course's content
  • Explanation of academic achievement in each course, summarized with a letter grade (A-F) if possible
  • If you have previously attended a high school, please request that they send an official transcript to Tisch Special Programs via one of the delivery methods outlined above.

Personal Background

  • On this page, you will be asked for additional contact and demographic information.

  • Be sure to enter your first and last names as they appear on a legal or government-issued document. There is a separate field for your preferred name or nickname.

Academic History

  • On this page, you will be asked to enter information about your school, including the name, location, and dates of attendance. Please note that GPA and GPA scale is required.

  • As you are entering your school information, you will have the option to upload your transcript on this page. All self-uploaded documents will be considered unofficial. In order for your application to be considered complete and ready for review, we must receive an official transcript directly from your school. Official transcripts should be emailed by a school official or transcript processing agency to admissions.docs@nyu.edu

Family and Emergency Contacts

    • Once you have entered their information, clicking the "Send To Recommender" button will trigger an email to them with a link to an online portal for submitting their recommendation. The email will come from university.programs@nyu.edu and have the subject line “Recommendation Request for {{Your Name}} for Tisch Future Artists”.

  • From this page, you can also send reminders by clicking "Edit" and then the "Send Reminder" button.

  • If you have submitted your application, you will be able to check on the status of your recommendation through your Applicant Portal. You will also be able to update your recommenders and send reminders by clicking the recommendations link under the Application Checklist section.

Disciplinary History

  • On this page, you will be asked if you have been found guilty of a criminal offense or disciplinary violation at your school involving physical harm to another person. If you answer yes, you will be asked to provide additional information.

    • Please note that your answers to these questions will be sent to NYU but will not appear on the PDF of your application.

    • Answering "yes" to either of these questions is NOT an automatic bar to admission. The information you provide will only be reviewed after we make a preliminary decision based on the rest of your application.

Future Artists Questions

  • On this page, you will be asked additional information that is specific to our program.

  • The personal statement prompt consists of Part A and Part B which should be answered separately. Part B will contain questions specific to your track. Your complete personal statement should total 500-1500 words, and you may not re-submit the same statement from another Tisch Special Programs application. It is recommended that you draft your statement in a separate word processing application and paste your responses in the appropriate boxes.

  • To upload your creative resume, click the “Browse…” button under “Creative Resume Upload.” Select a file from your computer and click the “Upload” button.

  • On this page, you will be asked to provide an electronic signature.

  • On this page, you will see a list of any errors or missing information. You will need to make sure that all issues are fixed before you can submit your application.

  • Final status notifications will be available on the dates listed in the Tisch Special Programs Admissions Calendar.
  • Early final status notification is not available.
  • You will receive an email with more information on how to log in and access your admissions decision through NYU Home.
  • If you are not accepted into your first choice program, and have indicated a second choice program, your application will be sent to the relevant department for review. You will receive additional admissions notifications for your second choice program.

If accepted, you will be required to confirm your participation using the online confirmation form. Please confirm your spot by the confirmation deadline found in your acceptance email.

  • When decisions are released, you will be notified via email. In this email, you will be directed to log into your applicant portal with your NYU credentials. You should have received your credentials in an earlier email with the subject line “Your NYU ID Numbers and Status Page.”
  • If you have multiple applications, please be sure you are looking at the correct application. There will be a dropdown menu in the upper right corner that you can use to switch between applications.
  • Once you have confirmed you are looking at the correct application, click on the appropriate link to view your application decision.
  • You will be brought to a page where you can view your decision letter. If needed, you can click the “Download PDF” link in the upper right hand corner to download a copy of your decision letter.
  • If you have been admitted or waitlisted, click “Return to Applicant Status” at the bottom of the page to return to the main page of your applicant portal.
  • At the bottom of your applicant portal, you should now see a section for “Forms.” Click on the link for “Admission Decision Reply Form” and complete the form to accept or decline your spot.
  • If you have been admitted and have chosen to accept your spot, an admission verification letter will be added to the “Status Update” section of your applicant portal. You can use this letter as proof of your admission to the program, if needed for any reason.
