NY Times Photo Editor and Photography & Imaging faculty member Jeffrey Henson Scales was recently interviewd on ABC 7 on the anual NY Times Year In Pictures, which he curates.
"It was the first time the Times had featured a picture of a same-sexed couple kissing on the front page of the paper [on January 1, 2020]," said Jeffrey Henson Scales, of the New York Times. But then 2020 was filled with so much darkness.
"This year was particularly poignant because globally everyone was experiencing the same news event," Scales said.
