Still from Mudbound

Cinematographer Rachel Morrison (BFA '00) was recently interviewed in IndieWire Magazine about her work on the new film Mudbound.

IndieWire's Chris O'Falt praised the film's distinctive look and feel, calling it "one of the most gorgeously shot films to play at Sundance in years," noting that Morrison's cinematography could earn her an Oscar nod in the next season.

In the interview, Rachel notes that she took inspiration from the photographic canon, including Robert Frank's The Americans as well as Farm Security Administration images by figures like Dorthea Lange and Gordon Parks.

Rachel also spoke of technical and aesthetic decisions she made alongside the film's director, Dee Rees, to effectively set the scene in the Post-WWII American South.
