Title of Capstone Project:

I Live Where You Vacation (and colonize)

Description of Project:

I Live Where You Vacation (and colonize) is a close reading and close listening of Bad Bunny’s song “El Apagón” and its music video. Through carefully analyzing the song, it is revealed that this joyful tune is a protest against U.S. colonialism and tourism in Puerto Rico. This project focuses on how colonialism and tourism are heavily intermingled, and how through music this topic can be presented in an accessible manner.

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR PROJECT?

What inspired I Live Where You Vacation (and colonize) are Camila’s lived experiences as a Puerto Rican and her interest in how music is a great medium for people to express their opinions and emotions. Works she did in the archive, and race and performance classes also inspired this project. Thank you to those that came before that have inspired the artists of today and tomorrow.
