Nora Thompson

Nora Raine Thompson is a writer, dancer-maker, and arts administrator. She moves to experiment with ways of gently dismantling constructions of selfhood. Nora graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. and is an M.A. candidate in Performance Studies at NYU. In her several years in New York, she has choreographed for theater, created an evening-length solo work, and taught movement improvisation workshops. Nora’s writing on performance has been featured in the Brooklyn Rail, Dance Enthusiast, and Danspace Project’s Platform 2020 Catalogue. She has worked in various dramaturgical and administrative roles, including with Eiko Otake and Danspace Project.

Description of Project

I invite you to experience a glimpse of my and Emily Rose Cannon's long-term collaborative work of dancing with rocks. We have listened to, sunken into, and laughed with the "ontologically multiple" (a Jane Bennett term) rock in an attempt to break down static constructs of the individual and embrace the multiplicity and entanglement of all things. This is one manifestation of my extended research into "impossible tasks" as scored portals into plural ways of being. We will share video work, text, and a rock for everyone.
