Museo Tamayo

Performance Studies Professor André Lepecki will give two public lectures at Museo Tamayo in Mexico City on April 7 and April 8, 2026:

The dispute over movement and the timelessness of the struggle: April 7, 11:30am - 2:30pm local time
In the session, participants will discuss some recent critiques of “time”, coming from critical feminist studies of African descent, in the United States, and from thought quilombola of Brazil, which is a philosophy of life and a stance of resistance and countercolonization.

It will be identified how these critiques help to address a fundamental question about power relations: to whom does the movement belong?

Corporality–Action–Art: April 8, 4:30pm- 6:00pm local time
Professor Lepecki will address the relationships between action, corporality and art in our era, the era of “high performance”. Based on the work of artists from South America, the United States and Europe, some of them included in the exhibition The Gesture and the Invisible, presented by the Tamayo Museum, will discuss the way in which its proposals encourage us to ask questions such as: what is art for our time? , What are the actions and performance for our era? , What are the policies for art today?

Both sessions will be conducted in English and are free to attend. Learn more at the link below!
