PS M.A. Alum, Dr. Menghang Wu (M.A. '20), was honored with the Selma Jeanne Cohen Conference Presentation Award at the American Society for Theatre Research Annual Conference. Their award-winning paper, titled "If the River Could Sing: Reviewing Xu Shuying (许淑媖)’s Chinese Folk Dance Lectures in the US Beyond Socialist Imagination, Han-centrism, and Multiculturalism," explores Xu Shuying’s role in rebuilding relations between the US and China in the post-Cold War era and contributes to the history of transpacific dance circulation by shifting the focus from a national identity framework to reshaping the narrative of Chinese dance within the global landscape.
