Description of Capstone Project
This project is a dossier of performance reviews that examine the relationship between homeland and exile. This collection of reviews explore ten different art objects, each of a different artistic medium. All of the works, whether explicitly or implicitly, are in conversation about the relationship between homeland, exile, memory and displacement. Each review also differs in style and form - some are structured as traditional pieces of criticism while others take the form of letters, poems or entries in a dictionary. All reviews are connected by the exilic sensibility, which is a self-defined artistic and intellectual paradigm that enables individuals to imagine and build new worlds on their own terms. This theoretical paradigm, alongisde the emphasis on examining and exploring ideas of homeland through exile, connect these artworks that each in their own way engage with what it means to live in the world as a subject.
