Arlesia McGowan

Arlesia McGowan is so excited to be attending Tisch to study performance! Arlesia was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and recently graduated from Harvard University where she studied music and stem cell biology. She attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts to study piano and voice. She has been a musician her whole life, while also studying science (mostly in college). She is a former ballet dancer, singer and pianist! Some of her favorite things to do are write music, shop, watch Netflix, go to the beach, and doing anything that's artistic/creative.

Why PS @ NYU?

I chose performance studies because there is so much to performance than just "performing". I want to study the theory of it, what makes different cultures and communities perform differently from one another and all of its idiosyncrasies . Moreover, there is also more to performance than just being on the stage! Whatever profession we go into, we are always performing and I think this program at Tisch, gets down the bottom line when it comes to this. These are a few points I am looking forward to discovering more at Tisch.
