Mateo Hurtado

Mateo

Mateo Hurtado (@_laserpipe) is a performer, writer, producer,  director, dramaturg, comedy fiend, enthusiast of Flautas, and art maker from Chicago, damnit! He holds a BFA in Theatre Studies and BA in Latina/o/x Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a co-conspirator alongside Dr. Sandra Ruiz attempting to overthrow all-things-evil, he serves as the Co-Founder of the Brown Theatre Collective. Double dipping in Chicago and NYC, Mateo has been seen (perf)orming across the big apple at rambunctious spaces ranging from Ars Nova,The Kitchen, HERE, Chateau de 420 Marcy, Mayday Space, South 4th Bar, Triple Crown, Dixon Place, The PIT, ART/NY, and Edge Theater @ The Point. In Chicago, Mateo is a part of indie improv team: Spunky Lil' Bastards, appearances include: The Annoyance, iO, Crowd. Currently, he is developing a performance-aesthetic-project that follows the living historical figure, Rita Moreno, as well as a new piece alongside director T. Cruz ; think Rocky & Bullwinkle clashing with Outer Space Beer Politics. When he's not having a ball or gallivanting literally anywhere, he's probably in a café being obsessed about something wild. You can catch his practically defunct podcast, The Animal Show Starring Safari Safari, on Soundcloud.
