Kristen Kelso

Kristen Kelso is a theatre director, actor, writer, translator, performance curator, and arts administrator from Georgia, while spending the last ten years working in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BFA Theatre Studies and a BA in Spanish Language and Literature. She has a Masters' of Arts in Humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas in Translation Studies. Her research interests include bilingual performance, the politics and performance of code-switching, and the politics and performance of literary translation.
In Dallas, she has worked as either an actor, director, translator and/or administrator with Shakespeare Dallas, Cara Mía Theatre Company, Dallas Theater Center, Undermain Theater, Cry Havoc Theater Company, and Kitchen Dog Theater.
She is excited about marrying her research interests with theatrical practice to help further steward the intersection of politics,  performance and scholarship in a multilingual world.

WHY PS @ NYU? 

I chose Performance Studies because I want to deepen my understanding of performance, of artistic forms and theoretical frameworks, and further merge my artistic and academic interests in translation and theatrical practice. Also, living in New York City is pretty awesome.
