Matthew Robbins Answering Questions From Open Arts Students
The Open Arts course "Portrait of an Artist: Walter Murch", instructed by Brane Živković, takes a deep dive into the work, life, and philosophy of award-winning filmmaker Walter Murch. In a recent class, students were visited by one of Murch's long time friends Matthew Robbins, an award-winning writer and director. Students were given a new and fresh perspective on Murch. One student, Riley Hubby, had this to say following the discussion:
Robbins has known Murch since college, and as such knew him before he was Academy Award Winner Walter Murch. In fact, in their professional career, they haven't worked together at all. The perspective Robbins brought was a more realistic and warm portrayal of Murch, which was much appreciated. Hearing him reflect on their time together making student movies, or going on European adventures, made me realize that these men were once college students like I was. It brought the character of Walter Murch much more down to earth, because I realized anyone in the classroom I was in could be that next Murch. The perspective was new, humanistic, and much appreciated.
