Meaning in Motion

Featuring the work of ITP Alumnus Nathaniel Stern

Meaning in Motion

Please join us for the opening reception of Meaning in Motion, the thesis exhibition curated by UWM Art History graduate student Kara Hendrickson.Meaning in Motion presents a four-part interactive suite by UWM Peck School of the Arts professor Nathaniel Stern collectively entitled Body Language (2000-2013, funded by the UWM Research Growth Initiative). The works (elicit, enter, stuttering, and scripted) invite viewers to interact with digital projections that track and respond to movement by producing animated text and spoken utterances. Through the juxtaposition of motion performed by the viewer's physical body with computer-generated words and speech, this series explores the complex ways in which the body and language depend upon each other in order to create and communicate meaning.
