Erin Ashley Carr
Class of 2022
Erin A. Carr is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. While although her undergraduate background is in Accounting, she has always been involved in creative expression, from singing in school & church choirs to developing artistic school projects and even designing personalized Myspace pages as a kid. Prior to attending NYU, she worked as a freelance graphic designer, social media manager, and media production assistant. These different experiences motivated her to begin the transition into creative-centered career and apply to IMA Low Res.
During her studies, Erin chose not to focus on any particular medium or discipline for the development of her projects. Rather, she was artistically motivated by childlike wonder and using technology as a way to engage humans with the world around them instead of exploiting them. By keeping these inspirations in mind, she created projects like Emote Control, Cyborg, and the Curiosity Chest (formerly titled “4: Past & Posterity”).
Today, Erin serves as a Product Designer for a local DMV startup in the culinary industry while continuing to develop onto her thesis project where she weaves the past, present, and future through oral stories and family heirlooms. In addition to these efforts, she is currently intrigued by Afrofuturism and is researching the corporate-sponsored space exploration to hypothesize its impact on minorities.
