“Miss Juneteenth”

“Miss Juneteenth”

The Daniel Patterson-DPd Miss Juneteenth won Best Feature Narrative at this year’s BlackStar Film Festival.

In Miss Juneteenth, a former beauty queen and single mom prepares her rebellious teenage daughter for the Miss Juneteenth pageant. The film was also nominated in best feature categories at Sundance and SXSW.

The BlackStar Film Festival is an annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and global communities of color — showcasing films by Black, Brown, and Indigenous people from around the world. The festival also featured a screening of alum Elegance Bratton’s Pier Kids, a documentary that follows Crystal LaBeija, Casper and Desean's transition from being homeless to housed.
