Grad Film Student Shorts Win at Austin Film Festival

Grad Film students Yi Tang and Maria Lavelle both took home awards for their respective narrative shorts at this year’s Austin Film Festival.

Tang’s Black Goat won the Jury Award for Narrative Student Short. The short follows a young girl who gets her first period after hearing a ghost story, and believes she must sacrifice a black goat in order to escape the curse she believes was put upon her.

Lavelle’s Holy Jail also won at the festival, receiving the Audience Award for Narrative Student Short. Holy Jail focuses on a struggling widower who decides to pay a speeding fine by spending five days in jail, and starts to find new meaning in life behind bars.
