Move Mountains Filmmakers Grantees Announced at WUTI Goes IdyllWILD

The North Face announced the recipients of its inaugural Move Mountains Filmmakers Grant at the WUTI Goes IdyllWILD Film Festival.

The Move Mountains Filmmakers Grant was created to address the inequitable representation of women behind the camera by providing four women filmmakers with financial and mentorial support to create a film that shares their unique perspective of exploration. In 2018, only 8% of the top 250 top-grossing movies were directed by women. Through the Move Mountains Filmmakers Grant, The North Face is committed to countering this trend.

The winners of the Women Filmmakers Grants - who offer a diverse range of perspectives - were announced at the festival, and will now get an opportunity to meet and learn from the program mentors, including Barbara Kopple, Taylor Rees, and Eloise King. Each mentor brings a unique perspective through their experience in the film industry.

UGFTV student Marie-Louise Nkashama (Fall '20) was the recipient of one of these grants for The Traveler Comes Home. It is a personal story about her journey back to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
