Kanbar Event Series presents Zoom Q&A with filmmaker Mike Leigh

filmmaker Mike Leigh on MEANTIME

Picturehouse 441 continues with a Q&A with filmmaker Mike Leigh on MEANTIME.

About MEANTIMELong before his internationally-acclaimed NAKED and SECRETS & LIES, master filmmaker Mike Leigh explored the trials and tribulations of a working-class family in his 1983 feature, MEANTIME. Full of the finely-drawn characters and human insights for which Leigh would become known, this film is a darkly funny and ultimately moving piece about one British family's struggles with unemployment and the corrosive effects of their own petty conflicts and resentments. Introducing the world to such now-renowned talents as Tim Roth and Gary Oldman, MEANTIME also served as a harbinger of things to come for its filmmaker.

Mike Leigh is one of cinema's master filmmakers, having written and directed such films as SECRETS & LIES, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY, TOPSY-TURVY, VERA DRAKE, ANOTHER YEAR, MR. TURNER, NAKED, PETERLOO, and LIFE IS SWEET, among many others. His honors include seven Oscar nominations, three BAFTAs, Cannes Palme d'Or and Best Director Prizes, and the Golden Lion Award from the Venice Film Festival.
