This week-long series of events (November 13–17) celebrates the lives and experiences of transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive people and educates the NYU community about how to better support these communities. Some exciting event highlights include a celebration of LGBTQ+ Filipino communities with author Geena Rocero, a conversation on the state of trans rights with the ACLU’s Chase Strangio, and a community social centering trans and non-binary joy.

TRANS AWARENESS WEEK 2023 EVENTS

Horse Barbie: A Conversation and Celebration with Author Geena Rocero

Date and Time: Mon. Nov 13 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. ET

Kick off NYU Trans Awareness Week with this captivating event featuring model, advocate, and author Geena Rocero in conversation about and celebration of her powerful new memoir, Horse Barbie. This event will not only be an exploration of Geena's personal journey but also a celebration of Filipino culture, resilience, and the intersection of identity. We invite attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant traditions, art, food, and music of Filipino LGBTQ+ communities. This event is co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU.

Quench & LGBTQ+ Career Series: Non-Binary@Work

Date and Time: Tues. Nov 14 from 12:30–2:00 p.m. ET

Event Description: Interested in learning more about navigating the working world as a non-binary individual? Join the LGBTQ+ Center and Wasserman Center for a facilitated conversation with fellow trans and non-binary community members as they share insights about their job searches, interview processes, and work experiences. Free food will be provided!

Showing Up For Trans Lives with Chase Strangio

Date and Time: Wed. Nov 15 from 1:00–2:00 p.m. ET

Transgender and non-binary communities are under attack across the globe in unprecedented ways, and it is crucial during this time that we show up for trans rights. Learn from Chase Strangio, deputy director for transgender justice with the ACLU’s LGBTQ & HIV Project, to understand how we can support our trans and non-binary community members.

Trans and Non-Binary Social

Date and Time: Thurs. Nov 16 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. ET

Join the LGBTQ+ Center, T-Party, and Pride at Work for a community gathering centering joy and connection for trans and non-binary students, faculty, and staff. There will be appetizers, refreshments, games, and music as we close out NYU Trans Awareness Week in style!

Intro to NYU LGBTQ+

Date and Time: Fri. Nov 17 from 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

Intro to NYU LGBTQ+ is an interactive session that introduces LGBTQ+ terms/concepts and strategies for better supporting LGBTQ+ communities. This session will provide an overview of resources and services that you can use to better serve these communities.
