Coming out can be an intensely personal journey. For many people it is their first expression of pride. NYU and Tisch will be safer spaces if we all understand the history and context of this experience for people in the LGBTQ+ community.

The Trevor Project
Coming Out Handbook

With a goal to help folks navigate an incredible variety of questions surrounding their identity, the Trevor Project compiled this comprehensive guide to lead them to the answers that fit their unique experience. It recognizes that each of us has the right to share or not share different aspects of ourselves with others.

National Human Rights Campaign
Coming out is a decision that LGBTQ+ individuals make every single day of their lives. The HRC has been celebrating National Coming Out Day since 1988; learn more about its history at the link above. The HRC also provides this guide to helping folks navigate their own experiences.

NYU LGBTQ+ Center
The center creates a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to engage with and develop their understanding of LGBTQ+ communities through programs, events, learning and development, support, resource sharing, and consultation.
