Rebecca Guenther

Metadata specialist and NYU Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) instructor Rebecca Guenther received an Innovation Award at the Opening Plenary of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance’s 2017 Digital Preservation conference on October 25.

Since 2012, Guenther has taught a course on "Metadata for Moving Image Collections" for the NYU Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) Program, in Tisch's Department of Cinema Studies. Students in the course learn about describing and managing moving image collections through metadata, or "data about data," which may be further defined as "structured information that describes, explains, locates, and otherwise makes it easier to retrieve and use an information resource."

Guenther was recognized with the prestigious award "for nurturing conversations among international library stakeholders" that led to the development and enhancement of metadata standards, for "helping to build a solid foundation for discovery metadata," and for her "leadership in the development of...metadata for digital preservation."

Congratulations, Rebecca!
