Three 2024 Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) graduates were awarded fellowships at major cultural heritage institutions

Jenny Hsu was awarded the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Conservation Fellow in time-based media at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As outlined in the September 2024 Department of Photograph Conservation Bulletin, Hsu will work closely with Jonathan Farbowitz (MIAP ‘16) to bring new artworks into its collection during a time of heightened acquisition and display of time-based media art. While in MIAP, Hsu completed internships at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club Archive, the Video Data Bank, and the Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department at Elmer Holmes Bobst Library at NYU. Hsu completed her thesis project, Beyond Bytes and Beats: The Preservation of Digital Live Performance Art, in Spring 2024.

José Solé was awarded the David Booth Fellowship in Media Conservation at the Museum of Modern Art. This Conservation Fellowship is part of a museum-wide fellowship program. It provides opportunities for training and development through immersion in the Museum's departments, working alongside and under experienced staff members. While at MIAP, Solé completed internships at the New York Public Library, BAVC Media, Prelinger Archives, and Dia Art Foundation. Solé completed his thesis project, Adapting to Complexity: Navigating Challenges in Time-Based Media Information Management for Conservation, in Spring 2024.

Matthew Yang was awarded the Getty Graduate Internship at the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. The Graduate Internship program provides training and work experience in departments across Getty, preparing graduate students for visual arts careers. Yang is the Collection & Content Management Systems Graduate Intern. In this role, he works on integration of museum systems, web archiving, and digital preservation. While at MIAP, Yang completed internships at the New York Public Library, BAVC Media, Prelinger Archives, and Cineric Inc.
