Leah Simon
2nd year student

Leah joins NYU’s Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program with a Masters in Folklore and Cultural Anthropology from the University of California Berkeley. An Alan Dundes Graduate Fellow, Leah's research has focused on the relationship between media archives, public memory, cultural heritage, and diaspora. A student member of AMIA, Leah has presented work at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) and is deeply passionate about the preservation of at-risk history. Leah has previously interned for BAVC Media assisting with their Preservation Access Program, and has worked with Canyon Cinema in San Francisco. Her passion is community and regional archiving and public programming and she has worked closely with the Bay Area Lesbian Archives of Oakland, California and YIVO’s Yiddish Sound Archives with their Folklore oral history collection. Leah is currently training as an assistant archival producer and researcher for documentary filmmaking, and is interested in strengthening relationships between amateur and small collections, non-fiction film production, public programming, and political education.
