Michelle Krause, New York Public Library Preservation Division, Summer 2015

During the summer of 2015 I interned in the Preservation Division of the New York Public Library, under the supervision of Evelyn Frangakis (Assistant Director of Preservation of the Barbara Goldsmith Preservation Division at NYPL). My time was divided among the various units within NYPL’s Preservation division (Audio Preservation, Collections Care, Conservation Treatment, Moving Image Preservation, and the Registrar’s office), as well as NYPL’s three staff locations (the Library for the Performing Arts, the Stephen A. Schwarzman building in Manhattan and at the Library Services Center in Long Island City). I worked with a broad array of Library collection formats (1/4" open reel audio tapes, U-matic tapes, 1/2" open reel tape, photographs, books, paper, manuscripts) and also worked with the registrar’s office regarding exhibitions, loans and special collections movement.
