Brianna Jones, La MaMa Experimental Theater Club, Spring 2019, NEH

For my Spring 2019 MIAP Directed internship I was matched at La MaMa Experimental Theater Club. Under the awesome guidance and mentorship of my intern supervisor Sophie Gliddenlyon I was tasked with two projects to complete over the course of the semester. My first project at La MaMa was to provide descriptions, metadata and quality assurance for 100 digitized VHS tapes. This project required me to learn how to navigate the collection management system Collective Access and allowed me to become familiar with La MaMa’s productions and playwrights. My second project at La MaMa was to research various digital storage vendors and present La MaMa’s department heads with a digital storage proposal. Even though I found this task to be very challenging and pushing me outside my comfort zone, I also found it to be extremely rewarding. It allowed me to push myself and my ability to understand more about the digital side of the archive world. I believe it also helped that I felt very supported by my intern supervisor and the rest of the La MaMa staff.
