Sigridur Sigurthorsdottir, NYU Libraries, Fales Library and Special Collections, Spring 2018

I spent the semester working in Fales Library and Special Collections, a division of NYU Libraries under the supervision of MIAP alum Kelly Haydon. The internship was centered around the Elliot Glass and Ken Marsh Video Collection along with other smaller projects. The collection is a part of Fales’ Downtown Collection, which documents the downtown arts scene that evolved in SoHo and the Lower East Side during the 1970s and through the early 1990s. The Glass and Marsh collection of mostly 1/2” open reel videos consists of works created by the two video artists as a part of collectives like Peoples Video Theater as well as individual projects. I worked primarily on metadata for the collection, on both item and collection level. Throughout the internship I had various other smaller projects which allowed me to familiarize myself with the institution and gain experience in a great variety of tasks.
