From January to May 2013, I worked under the supervision of Electronic Arts Intermix Collection Manager Desiree Leary to complete a number of projects related to the maintenance, organization, and growth of its collection. My range of tasks completed includes magnetic media inspection and inventorying; acid testing for acetate film; artist contract digitization; assisting with the accessioning of new works; writing or editing catalog descriptions for works, and more. In its own words, "founded in 1971, EAI is a leading international resource for video and media art.
A pioneering advocate for media art and artists, EAI's core program is the distribution and preservation of a major collection of over 3,500 new and historical video works by artists." As a distributor, its acute awareness of preservation and conservation issues perhaps makes it unique. During my time, I felt my interest in and knowledge of this field was greatly appreciated, and I was fortunate to work with a friendly and knowledgeable staff that encouraged my active participation in its collection management and preservation activities.
