Frannie Trempe, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), Fall 2017, NEH
This semester I worked at the Girl Scouts of the USA Headquarters in New York City. Over the course of the organization's 105 years, they have created and amassed a really wonderful audiovisual collection. I focused primarily on the film collection, which dates to 1926 and had not been seriously inspected or cataloged in decades. On my first day, we opened a box to find some incredible nitrate negatives featuring images of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low. I fully cataloged over 100 films in their content management system, Collective Access, and composed a comprehensive collection assessment with recommendations for how to proceed with preserving and making accessible this fantastic collection. Overall I am extremely pleased with the time I spent as at Girl Scouts of the USA!
