Savannah Campbell, City University Television (CUNY TV), Fall 2016
During my internship at at City University Television (CUNY TV), I worked on several projects involving video and digital preservation. Under the supervision of archivists Dave Rice and Catriona Schlosser, I digitized U-Matic tapes and created catalog records using the PBCore metadata standard. Much of my work at CUNY TV also involved learning how to write bash scripts. I implemented new features in Vrecord, an open-source video digitization program, including responding to bugs reported by Vrecord users at other institutions. In addition to Vrecord, I worked on several bash scripts for CUNY TV's microservices-based digital preservation workflow. One of these scripts runs verification checks on derivative video files to make sure they were transcoded correctly, and another scans file packages for viruses. I also learned about video deck repair and replaced worn-out belts in a U-Matic deck.
