Erica Titkemeyer, Anthology Film Archives, Fall 2012, AMPAS

The ¼" open reel audio collection at Anthology Film Archives consists of a variety of recordings with experimental filmmakers and film scholars that have accrued through the years. The dates range from the mid 1950s to the late 1970s, and the items exist in varying conditions. I was given the task of inspecting, repairing splices, and transferring these items to .wav and .mp3 (access) files using best practices set out by the institution and with consideration to the available facilities. Additionally, I filled in fields in the Anthology database relating to brand, IPS, condition, and base type. Parts of the collection that were especially exciting for me were the Haitian drum and music recordings made by Maya Deren in the late 50s and 60s. Other highlights included personal recordings by Jonas Mekas, and an interview between P. Adams Sitney and Kenneth Anger.
