University of South Carolina's Moving Image Research Collection (MIRC) tends to a wide variety of collections that include but are not limited to: home movies, Fox Movietone, Chinese Films (from the Chinese Embassy), Local TV news and more. I worked on a single collection: C.E. Feltner Jr.'s Collection. The films in this collection are entirely comprised of films that he amassed through his various film distribution, broadcast ventures and his own person collection. Much of the films are stock newsreel material such as U.S. based newsreels such as Pathé and Warner-Pathé, and even international newsreels such as La Settimana Incom and the Neue Deutsche Wochenschau.

For every film I would inspect the films for damage, deterioration and try to identify their provenance. One of the more interesting cases of identification were these rolls of nitrate camera negative color separations, which I identified as belonging to a Cinecolor B-movie named Miraculous Journey (1948). Each color separation was divided into scenes and spliced with leader together, bearing in mind frame-registration needing to be kept across the films. Overall, I learned a lot about the film production process as well as the importance of stock-films in film production.
