The AMI preservation labs at NYPL of the Performing Arts are highly specialized facilities equipped with comprehensive infrastructure, including state-of-the-art equipment, supplies, machines, software, and tools.
In this environment, I developed new skills in handling and digitizing film, audio, and video by following detailed workflows. I was trained by the expert team to operate advanced digitization equipment, such as Lasergraphics and ScanStation software, and to use command-line tools for packaging and managing digital files. I also gained insight into the complexities of video preservation, including considerations for baking videotapes and techniques for monitoring video signals using audio channels, phase meters, and waveform analysis of white and black levels.
This hands-on experience will enhance my professional skills and support my academic progress in the Video Preservation courses next year.
