Interning at the African Film Festival (AFF) was a great learning experience. Most of what I did I already had some background in, either from MIAP or other life experiences, but not so much in a professional environment. It was then very interesting to learn how to use AirTable and the other procedures at AFF. Mostly what I did was digitize VHS tapes and then input as much data as possible into the AirTable. Elements such as the name of the film, director, year, but also tape format, condition, and when it got digitized. Along with research and ephemera attached to the tapes, everything would be inventoried accordingly. Seeing how the process was done, and how we overcame oddities like no named tapes or mislabeled items was a great experience in seeing how this workflow is done professionally.
