Art & Public Policy Professor Anna Deavere Smith is working as an artist & cultural innovator to explore social change through showing her play "Fires in the Mirror" at Baltimore Center Stage.
The play will be shown from November 27 through December 19. It is directed by Nicole Brewer in partnership with Long Wharf Theatre. You can obtain tickets for the show here.
To write the play, Professor Smith interviewed more than 100 people about the tensions between the Black and Jewish residents of Crown Heights, Brooklyn in summer 1991. The play depicts this cultural moment through a one-person show that shares the oral histories of it and the series of violent events that occurred within it.
