Welcome to our academic year together in the Department of Art & Public Policy (APP) at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU! Over these next two semesters as MA students pursuing your degree in Arts Politics, or over the next years as an undergraduate minor taking courses with us, or as a First-Year in EWP taking plenaries with APP Faculty and guests, we know you will be enlivened and activated by the scholarship, art, and community we make together.

Together, we will deepen and explore the many-layered relationship between art and politics, scholarship and creativity, community and interdependence, and how we as makers, thinkers, doers, leaders, connectors, and more build and rebuild worlds through the lens of arts politics.

Art & Public Policy (APP)  is a place to bring your vibrancy, your questions, your practices, your hard work, your dreams, and your readiness to dig into what NYC has to offer in relation to art, critical thinking, writing, community building, politics, social movements, and more.

We look forward to connecting with you, connecting you with each other and our alumni, and connecting you with the wider NYU and NYC community of artists, entrepreneurs, thinkers, scholars, and makers. Our faculty are excited to work with you and get to know you.

Thank you for joining us at APP! We cannot wait to see how you change and grow yourself and the world!

Societies may never know it, but the war of an artist with his society is a lover’s war and he does, at his best, what lovers do, which is to reveal the beloved to himself and, with that revelation, to make freedom real.
