Professors Spike Lee and Sheril Antonio

In a collaboration with the Office of the Provost and Dean Allyson Green, Arts Politics Professor Sheril Antonio has been invited to discuss Do the Right Thing with Professor Spike Lee in honor of the 30th anniversary of its release at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Originally released in 1989, Do the Right Thing was added to the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress in 1999 and re-released by the Criterion Collection in 2019. Considered by many as Lee’s breakthrough film, his depiction of racial tensions on a brutally hot day in Brooklyn, NY are just as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.

This discussion with Professor Lee and Dean Antonio will examine the timeless themes that remain relevant since the film’s release.
