James Thacher

James Thacher is an experimental animator and film maker based in Brooklyn. He utilizes hand-made animation techniques to explore ideas of vision, memory, and historical struggle. His works have shown at Champs-Élysées Film Festival, GLAS animation festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Prismatic Ground, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and the Hamptons International Film Festival. James also freelances: working for a variety of production companies and clients. He has created animation for music videos, films, and documentaries. Some of his past clients include GIPHY, The New York Times, Creatives Rebuild New York, VOCAL-NY, and Skylight Pictures. James holds a BA from New York University and serves as an adjunct professor at New York University and The New School.
