WHO: Faculty Seeking UG Research Assistants
WHAT: Funding and Support to hire Federal Work-Study Eligible Undergrads
WHEN: Fall 2025 Applications due Tuesday, September 30th at 11:59pm
This program facilitates pairing Tisch faculty engaged in creative research (artistic, hybrid, scholarly, trans-disciplinary, etc) projects with undergraduate federal work-study students to provide a unique opportunity for both parties. Tisch faculty can benefit from 50-175 hours of research assistance over the academic year (October - June), while federal work-study students can gain valuable research experience and earn a competitive wage.
Eligibility:
- Creative research project in need of 50-175 hours of research assistance
- Project/Research cannot be exclusively for a commercial product
- The activity provides research benefits to the faculty's field and/or the Tisch/NYU Community
Application Requirements:
- Project description covering:
- Research interests/questions driving the activity
- Overview of proposed project (dates, times, location, activities, participants, etc.)
- Plan for research dissemination
- Benefits to NYU/Tisch community/the field
- Draft work schedule for student assistant (using this template)
- Student job description including:
- Job Title
- Ideal Start/End Date
- Approximate Number of Hours per Week
- Availability Requirements
- List of Primary Duties
- List of Skills the Student will Learn
- List of General Qualifications
Program Details:
- TCR facilitates Handshake job listings for each Faculty Applicant
- Students MUST apply through Handshake
- Faculty will interview and select students from the prescreened applicant pool
- Students must be Undergraduates eligible for Federal Work-study (Preference will be given to Tisch students)
- TCR hires and approves student hours in Peoplesync
- NO WORK should be completed by a student until they have been fully onboarded into Peoplesync
- The student pay rate is $17/hour
- Faculty are responsible for monitoring pre-approved student schedules
- Submitting an application does not guarantee a research assistant
Timeline:
- Applications for Fall 2025 are due by Tuesday, September 30th at 11:59pm
- The hiring processes will take approximately 4-6 weeks from application deadline
- Spring 2026 applications will open in January 2026
- All work must be completed by June 30th, 2026
