As the new year gets underway, we join those inspired to move forward with a renewed commitment to meaningful work, to causes of justice and equity, and to care and nurturing of community following three years of global upheaval. But we also know the value of recent lessons to guide us so we will keep ourselves connected to past and future as we collectively celebrate the opportunity to - as Dean Green recently wrote - join the symphony of ideas that make Tisch the only school of its kind in the world.

To that end, we want to share with you some highlights of things happening at Tisch Creative Research (TCR) now…and in the past year.

HEAR US 2023 (Fall)

The THIRD round of Tisch’s HEAR US program will kick-off in October with a submission deadline of December 5th. The tentative HEAR US 2023 timeline can be found here. (Please note that the application portal will open after the first required Information Session in early November.)

Learn more about HEAR US 2023 at the HEAR US Mini-Fest during Community Week and meet last year’s awardees. Based on the number of inquiries we have already received about the program, we know many of you are excited to participate in the process and we look forward to your applications! In the meantime, we invite another kind of participation: whether you are a student, a faculty member, a HEAR US veteran or just someone invested in the success of Tisch students, we would like your recommendations for HEAR US panelist/mentors. This incredible group of professionals, including a number of Tisch faculty, provide essential feedback to student work during the review process, and critical mentorship during the review and in the following six-month mentorship period. We are looking for people who want to help us celebrate and advance student projects that center BIPOC voices and stories. Nominations (name and email address) are welcome at: tisch.hearus@nyu.edu. You can read bios of recent awardees and panelist/mentors on the HEAR US pages of this website.

*NOTE: You must attend one of our informational sessions to apply. If you cannot attend, please email tisch.hearus@nyu.edu to request access to the recording. More information coming soon.

STUDENT RESEARCH FUND 2023 (Spring)

We will also continue to invest in student-led research through the Student Research Fund (SRF) for grads and undergrads interested in developing collaborative research projects, and joining a cohort of fellow researchers for peer mentorship and exchange. The tentative Student Research Fund 2023 timeline can be found here. (Please note that there will be an optional information session in March before the application deadline.)

If you’re interested in learning more about any of these two student-facing opportunities (HEAR US or SRF), please join us during Tisch’s annual Community Week (October 17-21)!

FACULTY & STAFF

If you’re a faculty or staff member, we invite you to apply to TCR’s annual Catwalk Residency (see last year’s RFP) which will take place from April to November 2023. Look for an email invitation to apply later this semester.

We will also continue to advance our Mega Grants Incubator (MGI) this year, welcoming a new 2023 cohort of faculty researchers to join our first MGI cohort (deadline TBD).

And, TCR will continue to administer the Future Imagination Collaboratory (FIC), which will launch its first publication and host the inaugural Future Imagination Symposium in Spring. Last year, an exciting NEW project emerged from the FIC - *This Is Not A Drill* - which opens its inaugural exhibition on Wednesday, September 28th from 5-7pm in the Bobst gallery space. Please join us to celebrate new works by faculty and student Fellows.

Additionally, we continue to develop Tisch’s research infrastructure and will be making some announcements about new tools and opportunities to support your research activity later this Fall. In the meantime, we hope you will reach out to us with any questions you may have… It’s going to be a great year and we hope you’ll join us!
