Critical Response Process 2019

The Critical Response Process, created by Liz Lerman, is a four-step process that combines the power of questions with the focus and challenge of informed dialogue. Since its inception, CRP has supported artists of all disciplines, as well as elected officials, leaders of arts and cultural institutions, educators, scientists and many more. 

Please Join Us on October 16th! (Participants are encouraged to attend two of the three sessions listed below.)
 

  • 8:30 - 10:15 - History, Philosophy and Values - Review and reflection on CRP will be discussed and shared through various activities. 

  • 10:30 - 12:30 - Formal Critical Response Process - A work-in-progress will be viewed. Artist will get to ask questions, audience(responders) will get to respond, and the session will be facilitated using the four steps of the process.

  • 1:00 - 3:00 - Variations and New Directions - Seasons change and so have the elements of CRP. Acknowledging the origins of CRP and the problems that may result, Liz has welcomed a range of adaptations to the process. Come learn these variations and discover how the process may be adapted for you.

  • SPECIAL CRP CLINIC! 3:15 - 4:30 - for faculty, staff and students who have experience using CRP and would like to fine tune their skills.

Meet your facilitators:

  • Liz Lerman

    Liz Lerman

    Liz Lerman is a choreographer, performer, writer, educator, and speaker. Her dance/theater works have been seen throughout the United States and abroad. Her aesthetic approach spans the range from abstract to personal to political, while her working process emphasizes research, translation between artistic media, and intensive collaboration with dancers, communities, and thinkers from diverse disciplines. In 1976 she founded Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and cultivated the company’s unique multi-generational ensemble into a leading force in contemporary dance until 2011. Liz conducts residencies on the Critical Response Process, creative research, the intersection of art and science, and the building of narrative within dance performance around the world.   • Erika Moore

    Erika Moore

    Erika R. Moore is a dancer, choreographer, actress, educator, speaker and current Program Administrator at NYU Tisch School for the Arts. Her artistic research animates methodologies that acknowledge lived and learned experiences and builds upon the exploration of one’s truth in relation to a given topic. In 2015 she begun, Movement Speaks, a multimedia performance that investigated the psychological impact of the passing of HB 2281. In 2017, she received a grant from the U.S Embassy in Beijing to teach Arts Leadership in Henan, China. A 2018 APAP Emerging Leader, 2015 ATPAM diversity intern and 2016 ASU Gammage Scholar has given Erika access to consult with various arts institutions on establishing equitable programming and governance. Erika completer her MFA in dance at ASU where she choreographed for the Black Theater Troupe and began her training in Liz Lerman's, Critical Response Process. For information visit her website.
